The People's Republic of Bangladesh has applied for a Credit from the International Development Association (IDA)toward the costof the BangladeshRegional Waterway Transport Project 1(formerly: Dhaka-Chittagong-Ashuganj Regional IWT CorridorProject),and it intends to apply part of the proceeds of this Credit to payments under Contract Nr W1: Navigation Improvement and Maintenanceof the Chittagong-Dhaka-Ashuganj IWT Corridor. The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority(BIWTA)intends to prequalify contractors and/or firms for a performance based contract to (a) maintain, at minimum depth andchannel width specified in the prequalification document, approximately 260 km long navigation channels along Class 1 river routesbetween Dhaka and Chittagong as well as branch routes to Ashuganj, Narayanganj and Barisal, and (b) to provide and maintain an aidto navigation system, established in accordance with International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) standards, alongthat route. It is expected that invitation for bids will be made in July 2016. Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank's Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDACredits, July 2014, and is open to all Applicants from eligible source countries, as defined in theguidelines.
