The project comprises the development of the design, procurement and installation of the Interpretation Fit Out of the new museum and archive. The Interpretative design proposal will be principally focussed on the exhibition galleries, archival reading rooms and educational facilities but will also be for all areas of the building and external courtyard. Project Scope The project scope for the Interpretative Designer includes: — Development of the interpretative design in accordance with the Interpretation Plan and Audience Development Report and Action Plan. — Development of the interpretation design in conjunction with design of the build elements through collaborative working with the ICT. — Design of exhibition and archive spaces to maximise flexibility for exhibitions and use for events, hospitality etc. — Working in conjunction with the Mechanical and Electrical Services Consultants to develop design to meet the specialist requirements of the interpretative elements in the museum exhibition and archive, including specialist lighting, environmental controls, IT infrastructure hardware and associated software, internal and external communications, access control, building and exhibition security. — Achieving a flexible and sustainable design. — Delivery of a range of innovative and creative interpretation techniques to suit a range of different learning styles. — Exceeding the requirements of DDA. — Compliance with relevant standards and legislation for the museum and archive sector. Meet the specialist requirements for the display and storage of the museum archive and collection: a) PD 5454:2012 Guide for the storage and exhibition of archival materials (see attached); b) Government Indemnity Scheme (GIS). — Knowledge of relevant frameworks and standards for the museum and archive sector in particular: 1. Accreditation: The UK Standard for Museums and Galleries, 2011, MLA (2011) 2. Accreditation: Archive Service Accreditation Standard, (June 2014) 3. PAS197:2009 Code of Practice for Cultural Collections Management, BSi (2009) Derry City and Strabane District Council (The Employer) seeks to appoint an Economic Operator to provide the services of an Interpretative Designer to undertake the interpretative design and manage the construction of the Interpretative Fit Out of the Maritime Museum and Archive. Working in close consultation with the Employer and separately appointed Integrated Consultant Team (ICT), the Interpretative Designer will be required to provide an interpretation design that meets the strategic aims and objectives of the Council and to manage the construction of the fit out interpretation elements of the project within quality, budget and programme requirements. The Interpretative Designer will be appointed under the NEC3 Professional Service Contract based on the scope of services, subject to funding, which will be detailed in the Invitation to Tender documents. The estimated capital budget for the proposed works will be in the region of GBP 8 000 000. The current budget allocation is GBP 4 400 000 for building costs and GBP 3 600 000 for interpretation fit out.
