This acquisition is for the purchase of a VIDAS 3 Analyzer and a ViLink Gateway Computer. The CDC requires the VIDAS 3 Analyzer and ViLink Gateway Computer because it is the only machine that will allow the requesting program to remain compliant with clinical laboratory improvement amendments and current diagnostic protocols. Additionally, continuity of current and on-going research projects require the use of the VIDAS specific assay. BioMerieux Inc., has been identified as the manufacturer and only retail supplier of the VIDAS 3 Analyzer and a ViLink Gateway Computer and as such is the only one that meets the requirements. Avian influenza is a virus that has had a profound impact on our poultry industry and further research is necessary in order to define potential risk and eventually provide suggestions for best management practices in order to protect our agriculture and livestock. The capability to prep samples using this instrument to accomplish sequencing of whole viral genomes is critical to this effort. This work will occur in the Wildlife Genomics Laboratory at NWRC Headquarters in Fort Collins, CO. this instrument will be used approximately once a week as long as genomics projects occur at NWRC.
