Apprentice Training Opportunities


The project delivery strategy with Building and Asset Services (BAS) undertaking the role as construction manager was developed in order to provide some 3rd and 4th year apprentices with the opportunity to gain valuable skills necessary to allow them to progress in, and in some cases complete, their trade. Trade contractors shall be required to use the nominated apprentices, when available, under the direction of a suitable qualified tradesman and provide them with work activities suitable to their year level.

 

Obligations of the Contractor

  • Provide the BAS apprentice with relevant training on the Contractor’s policies, procedures and site inductions
  • Provide a tradesperson who holds a current qualification in the relevant trade to supervise the BAS apprentice
  • Provide the BAS apprentice with work and training relevant to his/her trade and year level
  • Provide the BAS apprentice with all job specific tools other than the apprentice’s general hand tools applicable to their trade
  • Provide regular updates to BAS regarding the BAS apprentice’s performance including notification of any non-performance issues
  • Participate actively in providing the BAS apprentice with Competency Based Training in his/her relevant trade

Obligation of BAS

  • Apprentices nominated in the table above shall be provided to the contractor to the extent that they can be released from other BAS activities
  • BAS site supervisor is responsible for the apprentice availability
  • BAS will be responsible for providing all necessary Personal Protective Equipment to its apprentices
  • The BAS site supervisor will be responsible for signing the apprentice training documentation in consultation with the contractor
