Forestry Commission | Published November 8, 2017  -  Deadline November 29, 2017
cpvs
77200000

The Forestry Commission will be awarding a contract to support the existing project leaders within the 'Stronghold for Nature' theme of the Foresters' Forest programme. Although these leaders are expert in their own field, they are likely to need assistance when managing volunteers 'out in the field', performing ecological surveys or completing conservation works. The long term objective for this project is to create a self-sustaining community wildlife study group (CWSG). This contract addresses the need to support and train local people in how to identify and record data under the various projects involved with habitats and species included in the Foresters' Forest Programme. Our intention is to award this contract for a period of 4.25 years, from Dec 2017- March 2022. The Foresters' Forester Landscape Partnership Programme has ambitious targets to recreate and expand key habitats and to increase the populations of rare and common species alike. In order to demonstrate that the activities proposed have delivered the desired outcomes in terms of increased biodiversity, a monitoring programme is required to track progress. This monitoring programme brings together all the various projects under the Foresters' Forest Programme which involves habitats and species. It is the intention that the data captured from this monitoring programme will be collated by the Gloucestershire Centre for Environmental Records (GCER) for interpretation and reporting and they will be responsible for the co-ordination and data management. The appointed contractor will support this monitoring programme ensuring useful data is lodged with GCER, providing support to the biodiversity projects in general and getting in place a self-sustaining study group for beyond the programme. Contract for Community Celebration Project within the Foresters' Forest Heritage Lottery Funded Programme

Forestry Commission | Published October 31, 2017  -  Deadline November 16, 2017
cpvs
79421000

The Forestry Commission will be awarding a contract for the development and implementation of a series of ten community focused events which will create celebrations based on their own histories and aspirations, exploring a range of creative skills so as to share, exchange and develop the stories that are specific to each of the chosen communities in the Forest. Our intention is to award this contract for a period of 4.25 years, from Dec 2017- March 2022. The appointed contractor will need to identify ten communities in the Forest and work with them to draw out the key elements that represent and are important to that particular community such that these can be celebrated in appropriate ways using whatever means necessary. The definition of 'community celebration' in this project does not have to be about ten villages as one element could celebrate the community of Freeminers, for example (although it is anticipated that at least 5 of the communities will be villages). The rationale for selecting and specifying which communities will be used in the project forms part of this tender. Overall the range of communities selected should encapsulate what it means to be a Forester (and that term can itself be subject to many interpretations) so it is likely that this project will need to work with other project leaders within the Foresters' Forest programme. Please express your interest in this tender to Sue Middleton (sue.middleton@forestry.gsi.gov.uk) by email by 10am Thursday 16th Nov 2017 to allow us to notify you of any questions and answers we may receive.

Future for Freemining Training within the Foresters' Forest Heritage Lottery Funded Programme

Forestry Commission | Published September 18, 2017  -  Deadline November 2, 2017
cpvs
80550000

The Forestry Commission is inviting tenders for the development, implementation and reporting on a training programme to enable miners in the Forest of Dean to achieve the skills and experience to become Supervisors of Underground Mining Operations. Our intention is to award this contract for a period of 4.5 years, from October 2017- March 2022. At present within the Royal Forest of Dean Freeminers Association, there are a diminishing number of active Freeminers and the risk is that as this generation dies out, the skills and knowledge regarding how to understand the geology and techniques of mining in the Forest will die with them. There is a need to continually develop mining skills and training in traditional practices and methods of mining. Additionally training in the Supervision of Underground Mining Operations will present opportunities to develop and progress a career in mining to provide a new pool of Freeminers/Forest of Dean Miners. Please express your interest in this tender to Sue Middleton (sue.middleton@forestry.gsi.gov.uk) by email by 5pm Tuesday 30th Oct 2017 to allow us to notify you of any questions and answers we may receive.
