Undernutrition is a serious public health problem in Pakistan and contributes toward high morbidity and mortality among children The last National Nutrition Survey (NNS) was conducted in 2011 and results showed very high prevalence of acute and chronic malnutrition (Wasting : >15 percent, Stunting: 43.7 percent and Underweight: 31.5 percent) among children under five years of age The survey also shows that almost 50 percent of women are suffering from anemia and 15 percent of women are suffering from energy /caloric deficiency

With the support of DFID, UNICEF and Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination seek Expression of Interest (EOI) from firms/organizations with relevant background, experience and capacity to conduct a large scale National Nutrition Survey The survey will be completed by July 2018, while the data collection process will be started and completed in 2017  

The proposed NNS will be conducted throughout Pakistan, district level representative sample will be collected on following variables;

1) Demographic of sampled population

2) Anthropometric measurement including height, weight and age of children and women

3) Collection and analysis of blood samples for zinc, vitamin A & D, iron, calcium, serum folate, vitamin B12, and urine sample for iodine

4) Knowledge attitude and practices in reference to optimal infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices and on micronutrients intake

5) Food intake

6) Tests for water quality (E coli) at point of use and household Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) practices

7) Status of Food security

8) Gender empowerment socio-economic aspects including education, income and other poverty markers in relation to nutrition

9) Other qualitative data collection

This assignment seeks to engage the services of an entity with expertise and experience in social mobilization and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material development, production and placement. The services are required to support strengthening of the institutional capacity of the Local Government and Rural Development Department (LG&RD) FATA to generate awareness and demand for birth registration in Bara, Khyber Agency.  The deliverables (as outlined in the following section) will complement a birth registration initiative being undertaken by the (LG&RD) FATA with the technical and financial assistance of UNICEF. The assignment has three parts:

  1. Identification and Mapping of potential facilitators, prevailing social norms, all vulnerable children, and alternative care institutions in Bara Khyber Agency.
  2. Design/development of training and IEC material, its printing/production and placement.
  3. Engagement with local communities and stakeholders for the effective promotion of the right of the child to a legal identity through birth registration.

    Each part has a time bound deliverable with an indicative cost share to be disbursed on successful completion of same to the satisfaction of the LG&RD FATA and UNICEF’s technical team.

General Procurement Notice GENERAL PROCUREMENT NOTICE PAKISTAN Sindh Barrages ImprovementProject IRRIGATION GENERAL PROCUREMENT NOTICE Project ID No. P131324 The Government of Sindh intends to apply for financingin the amount of US$ 209 million dollar amount equivalent from the World Bank toward the cost of the Sindh BarragesImprovement Project and it intends to apply part of the proceedsto payments for goods, works, related services and consultingservices to be procured under this project. The project will include the following components: Component A:Rehabilitation of Guddu Barrage This component will support rehabilitation of the barrage and its associated structures.The works have been determined based on (a) detailed diagnostic assessment, (b) hydrological and sediment analysis studiesincluding physical and numerical model studies, and (c) geotechnical, structural, and safety evaluation studies.The component willfinance gate replacement works to improve the regulation and the flow of the barrage. This includes replacing all 65 main barragesteel gates (the gates are 18.3 m wide and 6.6 m high and weigh 55 tons each), 25 main canal head regulator gates (the gates are7.3m wide and 3.8m high and weigh 25 tons each) and hoist gears. It also includes providing newstandby generators, electrical cabling and switch gears, replacement of barragelighting, repairs to the barrage lifting bridge andsafety barriers, as well as rehabilitation of the three main canal head regulators. In addition, this component finances the RiverTraining Works to ensure improved flood protection and promote favourable river approach conditions.  The component also includes allowance for construction of a new left pocket divide wall towiden the left pocketand improve its ability to reduce the quantities of sediment entering the Ghotki and Rainee Canals.  Minor concrete repairs are needed along some of the upstream gate grooves and both fish ladders requirerehabilitation. §  Component B: Improved Barrage Operation. This component will support modernization andimprovements to the barrage operation and maintenance. This willinclude necessary upgrades to the instrument monitoring systemssuch as piezometers, gate positioning and gauging, training and capacity building for staff, technical assistance, replacement ofsurveillance and maintenance boats and procurement of hydrographic equipment. The project will provide new covered workshops and astock of spare parts formaintenance activities. The instrument monitoring system for the barrage will be renovated and theoperating staff will be equipped with anupgraded operation, maintenance, and surveillance manual. §  Component C:  Project Management Coordination and Monitoring and Evaluation, andtraining.  This component will support thecoordination of all project-related activities as well as training and technical assistance in procurement, financial, social andenvironmental safeguards and communication. This component will also cover the cost of consultingservices including constructionsupervision, contract administration,quality control, preparation of any additional designs, bidding documents and monitoring andevaluation. Activities will include the establishment of an independent Panel of Experts (POEs) to review, monitor, evaluate, andhelp guide the rehabilitation process with regard to thesafety of the barrage. The component will also support implementationofinformation dissemination and communication program, particularly regarding possible canal closures and implementation of thesafeguard related action plans. Procurement of contracts financed by the World Bank will be conducted throughthe procedures as specified in the World Bank's Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDACredits (current edition), and is open to all eligible bidders  asdefined in the guidelines.
