Whitby Piers Refurbishment Works - Construction

The contract is to design and construction of refurbishment works to the East and West Piers in Whitby Harbour. The piers have suffered damage over the years, and the works required include repairs to the masonry blockwork including filling of voids due to material loss, the provision of new sheet pile scour protection to the East Pier, concrete repairs to the promenades, installation of flood gates at Battery Parade slipway and possibly a new footbridge to link the East Pier with the Extension Arm. The refurbishment elements will be designed and constructed to withstand the conditions of being located within a coastal environment and in particular the increased storm activity in the exposed north Yorkshire coast line.

This contract would suit a contractor that is suitably experienced in design and construction of structures suitable for a coastal environment, but also require some landscaping / architectural skills to ensure the design is aesthetically enhancing to the area.

The Council is only seeking tenders from organisations who can deliver all aspects of the project (which may include subcontracting certain elements) for which one single turnkey contract will be awarded to one Principal Contractor. Tenders are not being sought for individual elements of the project such as design only, or masonry repairs only. Any partial tenders received in this form will not be considered.

Scarborough Borough Council where required commissions contractors to carry out disabled adaptation works to properties in order to facilitate independence for residents. In addition, the Council manages the provision of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) which enables residents in the borough to secure funding to carry out disabled adaptations to their properties where this is necessary.

This contract establishes contractors to deliver Disabled Adaptations Services in the following lots:

Lot 1a: Ramps — Concrete

Lot 1b: Ramps — Prefabricated

Lot 2: Showers

Lot 3: Heating — Air Source

Lot 4: Heating — Electric

Lot 5: Heating — Gas

Lot 6: Heating — Oil Fired.

Referrals for adaptations may be received from a number of sources, with the exact scheme usually determined by an Occupational Therapy assessment.

Adaptations play a major part in helping customers maintain their independence and provide them with a safe environment in their own homes.

In particular ramp adaptations provide safe access in and out of the property, for people with limited mobility, such as older and disabled people.

The Contractor must work to the specification/drawings provided. Where unforeseen works occur or the installation of the standard specification is not feasible, Contractors must contact the Technical Officer dealing with the case and agree any amendments to the specification prior to undertaking such works.

Referrals for adaptations may be received from a number of sources, with the exact scheme usually determined by an Occupational Therapy assessment.

Adaptations play a major part in helping customers maintain their independence and provide them with a safe environment in their own homes.
