The Department of Forest Ecology and Management wants to purchase three analyzer systems for high precision measurements of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and water vapour (H2O). The instrument system will be operated in field environment in northern Sweden. It will be applied in ecosystem research to analyze CO2 and CH4 exchanges between atmospheric air and soil in a mire ecosystem.
The purpose of this purchase is to obtain a new state-of-the-art atomic force microscope (AFM) to the Biocenter, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, an instrument to be hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology. The system is intended to be used by different research groups and in different kind of applications. E.g. in nanotechnology research to depict nano materials, to study the synthesis of and processes in nanomaterials as well as real time monitoring of the interaction between nanoparticles and the biological environment and to characterize novel functional materials based on protein nanofibers. The instrumentation is also intended to be used to study enzymatic degradation of lignocellulose and to study and measure intrinsic properties of the cellulose degrading enzymes when active on its substrate, to study food structure, to study pH stability of proteins and protein aggregation in novel foods as well as to analyze fiber and starch degradation in vitro, to study the interaction between plant roots and bacteria or fungi.
