The development of traffic safety-related personal characteristics of seniors and their influences: A longitudinal study over five years

So far, support all road safety relevant findings on the accident risk of older drivers and drivers on cross-sectional analyzes. On this basis, documenting national and international publications increased distance-related accident risk of older drivers from about 75 years. So far not been explored, the individual developments of mobility-related and traffic-safety-related characteristics of older car drivers Female and male. Thus, the important insight into the dynamics of change processes is lacking. This also applies to the question of when age-related traffic security-relevant changes occur exactly how long it takes to be formed certain behavioral adaptations and through which internal or external factors initiated these. The aim is to pursue the development of safety-related traffic and mobility-related characteristics of seniors in the context of a longitudinal study over a period of five years. It will be examined what personal changes (eg, diseases, medication, expectations, attitudes) and what changes in circumstances (objective living situation) and the traffic environment affect when and how on mobility behavior and the risk of accidents of this target group. Here, a time period should be defined, which is probably as a transition to an increased risk of accidents. According to previous knowledge, such a transition from about the age of 70 years will take place. The interpretation of the results of this study should be directed, inter alia, on the role of mobility-related self-regulation of older motorists and drivers.
