The UK Met Office operates a network of 16 C-band weather radars (nominal operating frequency 5.625 GHz.) which through in-house processing provide a variety of high quality products and services to customers. To maintain optimal performance, active maintenance is undertaken every 3 months. Performed by trained engineers and experienced with high voltage equipment and working at height.
Following a period of network renewal of the radar estate, a requirement has now been identified for an increased holding or replacement of the following Test and Measurement equipment:
1. Portable RF Signal generators in the frequency range 10 KHz to 6 GHz;
2. Portable Spectrum analysers 10 KHz to 6 GHz;
3. Portable Peak / Average power sensor/meters 10 KHz to 6 GHz;
4. Portable 4 channel digital Storage Oscilloscopes;
5. Portable Direction Finder 20 MHz — 6 GHz.
Testing is also required at some sites where there is limited availability of communications and mains power. Whereby the period the radar is taken out of the network for testing should not exclude 3 working days.
The Met Office is looking for a single source supply arrangement, whereby all of the above equipment can be called off from an over arching framework agreement with one supplier. A single supplier arrangement has been chosen as the preferred method, as value add services such as; asset management, calibration and maintenance prompts, and firmware upgrades, make handling a dispersed instrument base for more efficient.
