It has been decided that the current 66 kV network though Lofoten shall be upgraded to a 132 kV network due to the old network reaching its technical lifetime and a lack of transferring capacity and redundancy. The licence application for the voltage upgrade was sent to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) in spring 2014. The wanted system involves an approx. 101 km long aerial cable with submarine cables over Gimsøystraumen, Nappstraumen and Flakstadpollen, as well as new transformer stations in Kvitfossen and Svolvær in addition to upgrades to Kleppstad transformer station. The submarine cables'total length is calculated to approx. 12.4 km divided between 3 stretches, as well as spare cable: — From Kleppstad in Vågan municipality to Bustrandvik in Vestvavågøy municipality, approx. 7.3 km. — From Flæsa in Vestvågøy municipality to Napp in Flakstad municipality, approx. 2.6 km. — From Vareide (Vollan) to Midsundstad, both in Flakstad municipality, approx. 1.5 km. — 1 km spare cable, delivered to Lofotkraft's stores in Storeidøy. The cable can be directly wound here over an existing fixed motorised drum. A route survey has not been carried out, but this shall be done in the project. The cable lengths can, thus, vary somewhat as regards the stated lengths. This will be corrected after the route surveys have been carried out. The project also involves securing the cables in all land abutments, as well as flushing (0.7 m) down to approx. 30 m depth. The cables shall also be terminated in the existing cable end masts or connected to earth cables. This involves adding end muffs to the cables and taking them up in the cable end masts where they exist, and joined to existing earth cables where they exist.

Technical programme cables, connectors and accompanying equipment and components are understood in this procurement to be exemplified within the following product categories:

Technical programme cables — for use in NRK's equipment and installations. The main types of cables are Programme cable (sound cable), Coaxial cable (amongst other things for HF and Video incl. HD-TV etc.) and Signal cable (for controlling signals, network etc,). Lemo fibre for studio cameras and patch cords/fibre.

Technical programme connectors. The technical programme connectors shall mainly be used for the cables in point 1 in accordance with the specifications given in the tender documentation.

Accompanying tools and equipment. It is a prerequisite that there is good access to suitable tools for stripping, de-insultating, terminating and other preparation of cables and connectors in points 1 and 2, either from the tenderer or documented availability from sub-suppliers.

Lofoten-Vesterålen cabled observatory (LoVe) is an infrastructure on the seabed outside Hovden in Vesterålen, which consists of sensor nodes and cables that transfer energy and data.

A land station, a first sensor node and a cable between them were installed in 2013. LoVe shall now be expanded with 6 nodes and 4 cable stretches. The expansion is financed by Norges Forskningsråd and a scientific group. The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research is the main responsible partner and project leader. Two tender contests are being announced to continue the expansion. This is the first of them and is for the delivery and installation of the backbone in the system:

— 4 electro-optical cables to connect the sensor modes (~ 5-8 km each);

— 2 submarine distribution units for connecting sensor nodes (Subsea Distribution Units).

Tenders shall include both of these points.

A parallel tender contest for sensors/sensor platforms will be announced in early May 2016. Cooperation is required between the suppliers of the backbone and the sensor systems. Installation shall take place in 2017.

Øvre Eiker municipality would like to make a direct procurement of the rent of fibre cables between the municipality's locations. The contract will include both existing and planned cables. The municipality will pay line rent per metre straight linge between the termination points. The existing cables belong to Øvre Eiker Fiber. Any other suppliers will have to draw their own new cables and must bear the cost of any excavation/drawing of new cables. The supplier can draw from self-chosen locations that already have fibre cables (e.g. from Darbu School to Fiskum multi-purpose hall). The cables shall be Single Modus.
