In 2012 Newcastle City Council (the Council) undertook a procurement exercise that would establish what has since become known as the Alternative Provision Framework.  In doing so the Council has established a readily accessible source of information on provision that can be offered to young people in Key Stage 4 for whom the mainstream curriculum is not entirely suitable.  This information is now used by secondary schools/academies, the pupil referral unit and Council specialist staff.

 

This procurement exercise is aimed at attracting and including provision that is not included in the original Alternative Provision Framework.  Organisations are invited to submit proposals to deliver provision that will offer:

 

  • Additional vocational programmes that are linked to predicted employment opportunities in the local labour market
  • Creative and specialised means of engaging with and supporting young people on a one to one basis
  • Programmes aimed at helping young people to develop the skills to operate effectively as part of a team
  • Opportunities for young people to develop enterprise skills that will explore their creativity and encourage them be more inspiring in their future plans
