Castletown Heritage Society seeks to engage a registered professional archaeological and heritage consultancy to provide a range of archaeological and heritage services. The Consultant will lead and deliver the full scope of a community engagement project exploring the hitherto undiscovered Bronze Age landscape in a region of Caithness in the far north of Scotland. The eleven month project will interpret existing available LiDAR data and will be delivered through a programme of practical training workshops, field surveys and trial pit excavations, post finds analysis, exhibitions, public talks, and schools engagement activities. The project aims to engage the local community in researching, interpreting and disseminating information on a newly revealed, previously unknown and unrecorded aspect of the Caithness landscape. The project will place significant emphasis on encouraging participation by individuals not normally involved in heritage-based activities, by providing a wide range of different approaches to investigating and interpreting the historical landscape. The Consultant will support and train volunteers, including young people, in the specialist skills needed to carry out the project activities. These skills will include a range of archaeological techniques, IT skills, digital photography, design and production of relevant promotional and interpretative material. The results of the research will be made widely available through reports, publications, the internet, and other media, to ensure that the information reaches as wide an audience as possible. The project will encompass the following key activities: - Community, schools and college liaison. - Advertising, publicity and promotion. - Project launch event. - Summer school workshop training. - Summer school practical activity training. - Archaeology survey programme. - Presentations, lectures and Summer school workshops and practical activity series. - Bronze Age craft workshops, including one specifically tailored for school children. - Schools and college engagement programme, where appropriate. - Preparation, publication and dissemination of reports – local and national. - Develop and install Interactive digital display resource. - Development of a project website - Public event with opening of static display and demonstration of digital resource. - Project evaluation.
