The role of the Arts Business Consultant The Arts Business Consultant will work with the gallery to: • Select and appoint a Design Team to develop the project up to RIBA Work Stage 1-2. This should include developing a Design Brief. • Advise on the gallery’s Business Plan and staffing structure • Undertake consultation with the main stakeholders • Undertake public consultation • Advise on appointment of specialist consultants: such as retail, catering, renewable energy • Advise on an effective fundraising strategy to realise the full capital project Interviews for the Arts Business Consultant will take place on 15/16 September at Oriel Davies. To create a new and enlarged cafe with high visibility capable of accommodating up to 40 people and with an external patio area, fully equipped kitchen and catering store, separate toilet/s, and able to operate independently outside gallery opening hours;

To explore the potential for a light framed ‘terrace café style’ extension on Oriel Davies Gallery south side of the building also able to include arts and community space;

To provide a new, modestly sized, flexible arts/community space;

To re-design the building to accommodate a fully equipped gallery shop with good external visibility and adequate shop stock storage;

To landscape the area adjacent to extension to include public walkway alongside park and gallery;

To thoroughly investigate energy sustainability options including using gallery flat roof/s for solar panel installation.

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has recently committed to the delivery of a new building on land owned by Scottish Borders Council at Tweedbank that will provide the permanent home for the Great Tapestry of Scotland. The new Great Tapestry of Scotland Museum will be a high class visitor attraction and an asset of architectural importance to the Borders. It will provide a properly designed solution for displaying the Tapestry and be an instantly recognisable setting to hold Local and International events. SBC intends to appoint a contractor to carry out and complete the design, construction and delivery. It is anticipated that the existing design team will have completed the design to RIBA Stage 3 at the point of tender, the existing design team will be novated to the contractor. The terms and conditions of these contracts will not be changed by the novation process.
