Scarborough Borough Council where required commissions contractors to carry out disabled adaptation works to properties in order to facilitate independence for residents. In addition, the Council manages the provision of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) which enables residents in the borough to secure funding to carry out disabled adaptations to their properties where this is necessary.

This contract establishes contractors to deliver Disabled Adaptations Services in the following lots:

Lot 1a: Ramps — Concrete

Lot 1b: Ramps — Prefabricated

Lot 2: Showers

Lot 3: Heating — Air Source

Lot 4: Heating — Electric

Lot 5: Heating — Gas

Lot 6: Heating — Oil Fired.

Referrals for adaptations may be received from a number of sources, with the exact scheme usually determined by an Occupational Therapy assessment.

Adaptations play a major part in helping customers maintain their independence and provide them with a safe environment in their own homes.

In particular ramp adaptations provide safe access in and out of the property, for people with limited mobility, such as older and disabled people.

The Contractor must work to the specification/drawings provided. Where unforeseen works occur or the installation of the standard specification is not feasible, Contractors must contact the Technical Officer dealing with the case and agree any amendments to the specification prior to undertaking such works.

Referrals for adaptations may be received from a number of sources, with the exact scheme usually determined by an Occupational Therapy assessment.

Adaptations play a major part in helping customers maintain their independence and provide them with a safe environment in their own homes.

In particular the installation of wet floor shower facilities assist disabled people and their carers to manage essential daily activities, such as bathing and promote independence in the home.

The Council works to a standard specification, which must be adhered to at all times.

A framework agreement for Construction works, including Contractors design when required. The works involved are principally building work and new housing but some civil engineering works may also be included. This framework replaces the original YORbuild North Area Contractors Framework and builds upon its legacy of partnership and collaborative working. The purpose of the works is to provide 4 x unisex, pay on entry, public toilet cubicles and 4 x unisex, pass key entry, toilet and shower cubicles, washing and drying facilities. Works consist of the partial demolition of the existing public toilet block including the removal of the entire roof structure and the two external entrance lobbies/ extensions; complete removal of all internal walls, partitions, ceilings and fittings and partial strip out of existing services. The building is then to be extended using timber frame construction tied into the existing building. The roof replaced and the exterior clad in thermawood type cladding.
