HEFCE STEM Phase 2 Construction Works

In 2014 The faculty of Engineering and Environment secured match funding from Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), as part of its GBP200 million scheme to increase high-quality Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students. The University will use the GBP6.7 million investment to create world-class teaching and research STEM facilities at its city campus, including new specialist laboratories and technology.This is the second phase of the construction works centred around the conversion of 2 lecture theatres to Automotive laboratories and the refurbishment of existing labs. Works must commence in March 2016 and complete in September 2016.

Contract for the Hire of Construction Plant and Equipment

This aim of this procurement is to implement a framework which covers all of the Council's requirements for the hiring of construction plant and equipment. The contract is split into 5 Lots covering:- Lot 1 - Operated Plant, · Lot 2 - Non Operated Plant, · Lot 3 - Small Tools, · Lot 4 - Access Equipment, · Lot 5 - Accommodation. The Lots are then split down into 10 categories from A1 - I as detailed within the Pricing Schedules, suppliers may bid for one or more category(s). Upto a maximum of 3 suppliers will be awarded to each category on the Framework based on the ranked score achieved. Delivery of the equipment will mainly be at locations throughout Gateshead but may extend to other parts of the region. This will be specified at the time of order.

The work involves the design, supply and installation of play equipment and wet pore safety surfacing. The Homes & Communities Agency are intending to carry our ground investigations on a site in Harton Staithes, South Shields and are seeking to appoint a contractor to carry out ground investigation and soils testing as detailed below: Main works proposed and purpose of this contract The purpose of the Contract is to obtain information on ground and groundwater conditions for the proposed construction activities. The information will be specifically used to: • Confirm the ground profile and determine foundation depths and design parameters for foundation design. • To obtain samples for chemical testing for human health and controlled waters risk assessment. • Assess the previous remedial works on site within the made ground deposits. • To install monitoring equipment to characterise the risk posed by ground gases on the development. Scope of investigation The ground investigation shall comprise a detailed geotechnical and geo-environmental investigation of the ground conditions at the site. The investigation shall comprise the following: • 4No. cable percussive boreholes with rotary follow on – comprising 4No. cable percussive boreholes to rock head (anticipated to be between 7m bgl and 36.5m bgl) with 4No. rotary follow on to 5m below rock head. • 6No. machine excavated trial pits – comprising 6No. to 4.5-5mbgl (ground conditions allowing). • 4No. window samples exploratory holes – comprising 4No. to 5mbgl. • Combined ground gas and groundwater monitoring wells in all four cable percussive boreholes and four window sample exploratory holes. • Geotechnical and chemical testing of selected samples. In situ tests including Standard Penetration Tests and hand vane (HV) will be performed within the exploratory holes.
