The sewage treatment plant Wunstorf-Luthe was built in 1973 and converted into the present capacity in two stages in 1991 and 1995. As a result of this concept, measures were developed which should be implemented in the short, medium and long term. The retrofit tanks are now operated more energy-consciously by retrofitting them with modern in-situ sensors.
As a medium-term measure to further reduce the CO2 emissions of the sewage treatment plant, the conversion to anaerobic sludge stabilization was mentioned. The sewage sludge is certified and is 100% agriculturally utilized. The climate protection concept from 2012 is expected to reduce the annual operating costs of around EUR 250,000.
For the conversion to an anaerobic sludge stabilization, the construction of a pre-clarification tank, a sludge gas tank and gas storage tank, a cogeneration unit and the associated machine building are necessary.
