Berth 4 Upgrade 2016

Port of Townsville Limited | Published November 9, 2015  -  Deadline January 21, 2016
cpvs

The Port of Townsville Limited is seeking Proposals for C874 Berth 4 Upgrade 2016.

The major component of the upgrade of Berth 4 is the construction of a new continuous concrete wharf deck over the existing “skeletal” concrete structure.  The new deck will extend to the west to provide a common quay line with Berth 2 and Berth 3 together with extension south following demolition of the existing RoRo deck.

The new Berth 4 deck incorporates an extension of the existing Berth 3 Portainer (port gantry container) crane rails to provide flexibility of vessel berthing along the common quay line.  The project requires the driving of new steel support piles in the infill areas of the existing wharf, and the addition of steel piles to support the extension of the deck seaward and landward to the crane rail beam.  Vessel berthing will utilise a discrete cone fender system and 100 tonne bollards along the new quay line.

Approximately 54m of the quay line at the southern end of Berth 3 will be demolished and reconstructed including a new row of quay line crane rail support piles.

The new wharf deck will be capable of supporting a range of cargo handling equipment such as trucks, forklifts and mobile harbour cranes.  The existing paved area between the Berth 4 wharf deck and the ‘molasses rail siding’ will be raised and upgraded to provide for heavy vehicles, and to allow for a future cargo and container stacking similar to the Berth 3 hardstand.  The upgrade includes the retention and relocation of the existing cement, molasses, and caustic soda product delivery pipelines together with additional deck pits for future products.  The existing berth pocket will be slightly deepened to match the design depth of both Berth 3 and Berth 2 noting this work is not included in the C874 contract.
