The USDA, ARS, Western Regional Research Center, Albany, California has a requirement for a fully automatic plater with full traceability that dispenses a spiral onto a Petri plate for purpose of bacterial quantification. The plating speed is essential for meeting laboratory research demands and must be able to plate a sample, sterilize and get ready for the next sample in less than 30 seconds. The automatic plating system must be equipped with a cleaning device to disinfect the stylus without risk of cross-contamination and include monitoring CD ROM software with traceability. The automatic plater must not require need for consumables (e.g., disposable syringes to bypass the sterilization step).
