On behalf of the UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, we manage the national Low Level Waste Repository in West Cumbria and oversee a national Low Level Waste programme to ensure that lower activity radioactive waste is managed effectively across the UK. LLWR's customers include nuclear decommissioning and power companies, defence sites, the healthcare sector, research establishments and other industries within the UK. Our waste services help customers manage their lower activity radioactive waste efficiently to reduce disposal volumes and preserve capacity at the Low Level Waste Repository. Customers can access a wide range of treatment and disposal services to ensure waste is managed safely and effectively. More information about LLWR can be found via our website: www.llwrsite.com LLWR requires various packaging services to support our radioactive waste treatment and disposal activities. One such requirement is for the fabrication of a number of conventional Type B Novapak Packaging assets (also commonly referred to as Novapak Type B fissile containers) to be used by entities throughout the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority estate for the movement of fissile material. The Novapak packaging design consists of an inner packaging and an outer box. The outer box is an open cubic structure made up of stainless steel sections welded together with vertical, horizontal and diagonal strengthening members. Cork lined thermal shielding panels and aluminium cladding surround this structure. The inner structure is primarily comprised of a base plate upon which drums are placed, and an upper frame sub-assembly with tubular sections. LLWR has a requirement for a competent metal fabricator to provide the following services:- — Undertake fabrication of multiple Type B Novapak Packaging assets; — Implement Quality arrangements as required; — Undertake testing activities to ensure specification compliance. As the current multi-supplier framework agreement for metallic waste treatment services is coming to an end, it is our intention to establish agreements with suitable Radioactive Metallic Waste Treatment providers via another 4 year multi-supplier framework, to give LLWR the ability continue to provide this service to the UK's Nuclear Industry. LLWR has a requirement for competent Radioactive Metallic Waste Treatment service providers to provide some or all of the following: — Ability to treat radioactive metallic waste and release an end product that can be exempted for recycling; — Ability to treat radioactive metallic waste and release an end product that can be directly re-used i.e. a product that does not have to undergo further recycling to enable its use; — Ability to treat radioactive metallic waste and release a product that can be disposed of as Very Low Level Waste/Low Active Low Level Waste; — Ability to treat radioactive metallic waste and release a product that can be disposed of as Low Level Waste; — Ability to interim and/or decay store radioactive metallic waste; — Ability to carry-out preparation for and/or actual treatment of radioactive metallic waste on a customer's site. Suppliers interested in being part of this framework agreement are invited to attend a Supplier Engagement event on Tuesday 28.4.2015 (14:00-16:00) at North Lakes Hotel, Penrith, Cumbria. LLWR will present initial proposals for the service scope and invite comments.
