With this project ‘Postcosecha América Latina’, SDC in partnership with private sector actors aims at increasing income and food security of 130'000 rural families in 5 Latin American countries. Selling post-production solutions for maize and beans to subsistence and low-income farmers will allow agribusiness companies to enter into new markets, while reducing post-harvest losses and improving life conditions for small farmers. Replication of the business model will be supported by conducive policies and knowledge management. The project overall goal is that ‘Rural families (men and women) adopting post-production solutions for food grains have increased their incomes and reduced their food gap’. The expected outcomes are: — Dynamic and sustainable markets of post-production solutions invigorated. — Post-production policies and framework conditions improved. — Knowledge management mechanisms in place. The project key outputs include: — Sustainable business models for massive distribution of post-production solutions available (including financial service products and social marketing devices) and systematized. — A multi-stakeholder coordination and exchange national platform is in place for knowledge and policy purpose. — Quality system and norms for grain defined and implemented. — Research agenda established according to farmers and agribusiness companies' needs (grain loss estimate and alternative to chemical pesticide). — Information and experiences shared in specialized networks (SDC Agriculture and Food Security Network, sub group post-harvest management and FAO Community of Practice on Food Loss reduction). The project implementation has been awarded to the Swiss Foundation Swisscontact through a call for proposal. SDC is tendering herewith for a complementary backstopping mandate which shall en-sure appropriate support and technical advice to the implementing agency, the local agribusiness companies as key partners of the project and SDC Cooperation Office in Managua. The mandate should support in particular the component on post-production market development, providing know-how and experiences in coaching social entrepreneurs.
