Technical description for Kerrera Ferry newbuild. Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd are tendering for a new ferry for the Kerrera service. The existing vessel Gylen Lady built in 1999 by Corpach Boatbuilding and designed by Alasdair Salmon has served the island well for the last 18 years. We require to procure a vessel built broadly to the same specification and size of the Gylen Lady but allowing for latest legislative requirements since 1999, and also to enhance some aspects of the design. Brief description Gylen lady. Name: Gylen Lady Year built: 1999 Builder: Corpach Boatbuilding, Fort William Length: 10 metres, extended to 12 metres in 2004 Breadth: 3.3 metres Draft: 0.6 metres Engines: 2 x Honda 80 hp 4 stroke outboards Displacement: 11 tonnes Deadweight: 3.5 tonnes. Gylen Lady is a box barge style of vessel. She has a single section bow ramp fwd, which is operated from the wheelhouse utilising 2 x 12V motor winches port and stbd of the ramp opening, which is 2.1 metres narrow. Deck plating and ramp decking is checker plate for non-slip purposes. Sacrificial ½ round bars are fitted on the hull fwd. to ensure slipway contact has no detrimental effect on the crafts hull. The craft is licensed to MCA Workboat Code D, (this may not be required). The route itself is around 550 metres across the Sound of Kerrera. The craft is driven by 2 x Honda 4 stroke 80 hp outboard engines. These engines are controlled from the wheelhouse by morse cable and can be pitched should it be necessary. The engines are “toed” in and this allows a good turning circle (she can turn within her own length) and steers in a straight line better. The engines charge two x12V batteries which are used for ramp lift lower and any instrumentation/control in the wheelhouse, including the VHF radio set. Fuel for the engines are supplied by two separate fuel tanks aft which can quickly be jettisoned overboard should a fire occur. Instrumentation in the wheelhouse consists of engine rev counters and pitch setting, VHF set, windscreen wiper (single centre), navigation lights, ships horn, deck lights (LED) and ramp controls; all 12V supplied from battery sets with single / both isolator switch. With regard to Life Saving Apparatus (LSA) Gylen Lady has 2 roof mounted 8 man liferafts, 4 life rings, two on the wheelhouse roof and two fwd and sufficient lifejackets for 12 passengers and two crew including child lifejackets as per MCA code. For fire-fighting she has one CO2 6 Kg bottle fire extinguisher and a small 4 kg dry powder extinguisher, both stowed in the wheelhouse. Important Suppliers should be aware that they are being asked to provide the delivery date for their proposal, your submission must be for the delivery of a fully commissioned and certified boat (by the statuary authorities) and to the final specification as agreed. Designs will be evaluated, finalised and agreed 2 weeks after your submission and before the 24th of May 2017. Bearing in mind that the final design will agreed on or before the 24th May 2017 tenderers should quote in this tender the absolute best delivery date they could achieve if they are awarded this contract on or before the 24th May 2017 Tenderers should submit their design with tender submission.
