1. The competition consists in performing the functional-spatial concept of the Central Square in Warsaw.

2. The purpose of the competition is to select the best in terms of program, spatial, functional and architectural concept of the urban-architectural-landscape design for the public space of the Central Square, which will be created from the part of Plac Defilad located before the main entrance to the Palace of Culture and Science and Marszałkowska street. The competition design must take into account the national, regional and local dimension of the future square as an attractive venue for a variety of activities: from the simple passing through the square, through the individual to the mass events.

An important element of the competition is to find the right relationship between the provision of convenient conditions for future use and the heritage of the place history. In the opinion of many residents, Central Square planned at the beginning of the 21st century as a large open space, should not be devoid of greenery.

The competition is determined by the Competition Jury, through the verification and evaluation in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, several competition entries, which will receive equivalent awards. An equivalent prize consists of a cash prize and an invitation to negotiate without a notice for the winning team. Negotiations will be preceded by a public discussion on the awarded projects. The project will be selected from the winning projects taking into account the results of this discussion. The chosen mode of selection is the answer to the request for public consultation.
