Meløy Sixth Form College has trained fishing vessel captains at deck officer level class 5 since 1995. It has provided able seamen training since 2014. A certificate of apprenticeship in fishing and catch gives pupils the option to apply for and complete nautical courses at technical vocation colleges. This gives valuable competence for the fishing industry in the county at the same time as giving pupils a basis for further education. A vessel with the necessary updated instrumentation will also give our pupils a modern training arena for the nautical part of the training.

The vessel shall primarily operate in the fjord and coastal areas in Nordland county. However all of the North Norwegian coastline can be used at times. The vessel can also be used by others or hired out to actors in parts of the year, for example for research, feeding live fish, service vessel in fish farming and environmental surveys.

A new modern school vessel will be important for recruitment to the fishing industry in Nordland.
